A charism is a spiritual gift given a Christian by the Holy Spirit for the good of the church.  Helping to educate the poor and improve the lives of children is a charism of the Daughters of Divine Providence. They were founded for this purpose in Rome, Italy in 1832.  The Charism identifies the spirituality of every congregation.  

The charismatic gift that identifies us in the Church is inspired in the pages of Matthew's gospel. (Matthew 6:26-33) Its title begins: "In the Hands of the Father": "Look at the birds in the sky.  They do not sow or reap, they gather nothing into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are not you more important than they? Which of you by worrying can add a moment to his life-span? As for clothes, why be concerned? Learn a lesson from the way the wild flowers grow. They do not work, they do not spin. Yet I assure you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was arrayed like one of these. If God can clothe in such splendor the grass of the field, which blooms today and is thrown on the fire tomorrow, will He not provide much more for you, O weak in faith! Stop worrying, then, over questions like, 'What are we to eat, or what are we to drink, or what are we to wear?' The unbelievers are always running after these things. Your heavenly Father knows all that you need, seek first His kingship over you, His way of holiness, and all these things will be given you besides."

The Daughters of Divine Providence are called to live and transmit this message of great hope: The life of every creature is in the hands of God the Father, Who is Love, and Providence. As His Daughters we feel ourselves in His hands, recognizing His face in every circumstance of life, while living in the presence of the Father, who gives us the greatest liberty and profound serenity.

"Even the hairs of your head have been counted", Jesus continues his life and becomes for us a sign of unconditional abandonment to the Father up until his last supreme offering where he says: "Father, into your hands I commend my spirit." (Lk. 23:46)

Our Founders have written with their lives a beatitude of abandonment to the will of the Father, and have taught us to become the joy of providence to little children, the poorest, least of our society, and passionately searching for the reign of God.
